Dorothy Jane Chasteen Kirkman, 86, of Keosauqua passed away at 1:14 P.M. Monday Feb. 24, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren, Keosauqua.
She was born June 12, 1927 near Bedford, IN to Henry and Frances Brinegar Chasteen and married William D. Kirkman March 1, 1945. He died March 3, 1987. Following her husband’s death she moved to Milton and later to Keosauqua. Dorothy and Bill were for many years members of the Assembly of God Church. One of their favorite Bible passages and the creed by which they lived is as follows: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path”. (Proverbs 3:5-6, KJV)
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Eads (Burton) of Milton, IA, a Son, Mike Kirkman of Bloomington, IN, a grandson, Aaron Eads (Lori) of Mt. Union, IA, 3 granddaughters, Rachel Smith (Blain) of Keosauqua, IA, Naomi Pruett (Donnie) of Columbus, IN and Sarah Richardson (Jamie) of Bloomington, IN, 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Florence Childers and Wilma Charles of Bedford, IN and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, John, James, Joseph and Marshall Chasteen, four sisters, Edna Jackson, Mary Patton, Thelma Sullivan and Marjorie Reeves and a granddaughter, Mary Kirkman Matthews.
A funeral service will be held at 6 P.M. Wednesday Feb. 26, 2014 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Lee McIntosh officiating. Visitation with family present will be 5-6 P.M. prior to the service. Private burial will be in Clover Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, IN.
