City Council receives annual report from BVC

The 2013-14 business year was a good one for Bridge View Center in Ottumwa.
During last night’s meeting, the Ottumwa City Council received a financial report from Larry Gawronski executive Director of the events center. Gawronski says total attendance during the year totaled 118-thousand, 183 up slightly over the previous year.
Gawronski said there were 483 events during the year that resulted in an economic impact of 2.7-million dollars.
The director also give the city council an update on efforts to bring Mumford and Sons to Ottumwa in 2015. Gawronski says serious talks are now on going in hopes of bring the group to Ottumwa. Gawronski says if the event plays out it would be held in July of next year and says the promoters of Mumford and Sons would buy up every hotel and motel room in Ottumwa. As to a location for the concert, Gawronski says the concert would possibily be held in Ottumwa Park.
Also during last night’s meeting, the city council approved a resolution awarding a contract for the Iowa Avenue Reconstruction Project.
Portzen Construction Company of Dubuque was awarded the contract after submitting a bid price of 2.5-million dollars.
The project will consists of a full width, full depth reconstruction of Iowa Avenue from highway 34 to Main Street.
The city of Ottumwa has received a Rise grant in the amount of more than a million dollars, 500-thousand dollars from the Ottumwa Water Works, more than 48-thousand dollars from Wapello County and more than 900-thousand dollars from the city’s local option sales tax.
