Body Discovered in Creek Near Liberty Elementary School

By Nick Davis, March 20, 2017

The Ottumwa Police Department is investigating a deceased body discovered in a creek.

The Police Department responded to an area west of the 700 block of South Webster at around 4:40 Friday afternoon.

They discovered a body identified as 41 year old Jason Lee Seavey of Ottumwa.

Seavey’s body has been transferred to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for an autopsy.

Lieutenant Jason Bell with the Ottumwa Police Department had little information to share. He declined to comment when asked if authorities suspected foul play or if the victim had any apparent injuries.

When asked if there was reason to believe the public was in any danger he replied “We’ll know more when the autopsy comes back.”

Bell added that there is currently no timeline for when that information may become available.

No other information was immediately available.

This is an ongoing investigation.
